Three men were yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Seon Allicock, of Blueberry Hill, Linden; Anthony VanDembury of Wisroc, Linden and a 16-year-old boy were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
It is alleged that in April at Kwakwani, Region Ten, the men had sex with the overseas volunteer.
They were represented by Attorney Moti Singh.
Court proceedings were held in-camera due to the fact that a juvenile was indicted.
According to information, the young volunteer, who came here to teach children in depressed communities, went to a bar with friends in the village where she was working.
On her way back home, the woman who is said to be in her early 20s was reportedly accosted by the three accused who took her to a desolate area and raped her.
The volunteer reported the matter to police. Investigations carried out led to the three men being arrested. They were charged based on advice given by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Kaieteur News understands that the young woman has since been transferred from the village.
The matter will be called again today before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Kaieteur News was told that the young woman told investigators that she was intoxicated at the time and could not recall what had happened. However, she reportedly told investigators that the men took turns raping her. She was able to see their faces.
