Armed bandits on Monday robbed and terrorized the owners of a Chinese restaurant located in Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice.
According to information from a police press release, owner of the New Lucky Star
Restaurant, Lin Yu Quiang was awakened by a noise at about 01:30hrs and upon investigation, he was confronted by four masked men, one armed with a handgun and the others with cutlasses.
An eyewitness who resides a few houses away stated that he was aroused by loud screams coming from the direction of the restaurant. He said that the bandits gained entry into the home by jumping onto the roof of the garage and removing the grill and breaking the glass from the front window.
“Me hear hard, hard screaming from de house and meh get up and then meh hear when them binna bruk out de glass from de front window.”
The proprietor, although reluctant to divulge information said that the men, after entering the home, immediately demanded cash and valuables.
The owner handed over the day’s sales which amounted to $50,000. The bandits also took away two laptop computers and a cellular phone.
The release also mentioned that the men ransacked the premises and escaped but not before injuring the victim to the back of his head with the gun. Lin was treated at the New Amsterdam Hospital and sent away. Police responded but the men had already fled the area.
The restaurant was robbed previously in January last year under different management. Armed men invaded the premises and injured its owner, Tai Hong Fen before carting off cellular phone cards, both local and foreign currency and other valuables.
Meanwhile, Lin took over the business about two months ago and was immediately warned about the staff he was employing. Police investigations are ongoing.
