Weeks after he made death threats to a city Magistrate while brandishing a makeshift weapon
and expressing frustration over an adjournment, Adam McDonald was finally given a reason to celebrate yesterday.
Three robbery under arms charges were dismissed against him and his co accused Jermaine Bailey. The duo allegedly carried out a brazen robbery at the Elite Mobile Cell Phone Store on Parade Street, Kingston, Georgetown on October 2, last.
The charges against the men were dismissed after City Magistrate Fabayo Azore ruled that there was not sufficient evidence led by the prosecution to convict them. Magistrate Azore also underscored that none of the prosecution’s witnesses showed up for the trial.
Relief was present on the faces of family members who attended the court hearing.
It was alleged that on October, 2, 2015 at Parade Street, Kingston, McDonald, 26, of Linden and Bailey, 21 of Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown while in the company of others and armed with a gun, robbed Derrick Quailo of an Iphone 5S valued $100,000, an Iphone 4S valued $25,000, and an Alcatel One Touch phone valued $25,000.
It was also alleged that on the same day at the Kingston Seawall, the men while in the company of others
and armed with a gun, robbed John Campayne of $60,000.
It was further alleged that on the same day, the duo robbed Campayne of five Samsung Galaxy S5 phones valued $400,000, two BlackBerry 8520, a BlackBerry 9370 among other phones all total value of $1.230M.
McDonald also had a charge of illegal firearm and ammunition possession dismissed against him. He was accused of having one 9mm semi automatic pistol in his possession along with two 9mm live rounds of ammunition when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
According to reports, the men had entered the store around 14:00hrs on the day in question.
One of them reportedly inquired about purchasing credit, while another whipped out a handgun shortly after. They allegedly locked the doors to the premises, while the gunman demanded persons to hand over valuables. It was reported that the bandits carted off with a quantity of high end cell phones.
Their getaway was botched after they crashed the car bearing fake number plates into a canal on Kingston –just outside the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary.
Police ranks pursued them after noticing them acting suspiciously.
It was reported that trainee police officers chased after the men and were able to apprehend them after they crashed their getaway car bearing fake number plates outside the Criminal Investigation Department, Eve Leary.
