Today, Statistician Charwayne Walker looks back at the best bowling figures by West Indian players in One Day International matches.
Winston Davis – Playing in his debut World Cup Match in 1983 at Headingley Leeds, England, Davis shocked Australia with the then World Cup best figures 7-51 in 10.3 overs. Scores in that historic match 33 years ago that West Indies won by a 101 runs. West Indies 252-9, Larry Gomes 70, Faoud Bacchus 47, Michael Holding 21. Bowling for Australia Geoff Lawson took 3 for 24, Dennis Lillee took 2 for 55. Australia 151 for 9, David Hookes 55, Graham Yallop 21. Bowling for the West Indies: Winston Davis took 7 for 51 from 10.3 overs.
Colin Croft 6 for 15 versus England at Arnos Vale Playing Field, St.Vincent 1981 – West Indies won that thriller by 2 runs. Scores: West Indies 127 all out in 47.2 overs. Everton Mattis 62, Desmond Haynes 34.  Bowling for England; Graham Gooch took 2 for 12 from 6 overs, G. Stevenson 2 for 18 from 8.2 overs. England 125 all out in 48.2 overs. Ian Botham 60, David Gower 22. Bowling for the West Indies; Colin Croft took 6 for 15 from 9 overs, Michael Holding took 2 for 30 from 9 overs.
Patrick Patterson took 6 for 29 versus India December 2nd 1987 – Patrick Patterson 6 for 29 from 9.4 overs West Indies versus India Nagpur, December 8 1987. Result: West Indies won by 10 runs. Scores: West Indies 203 for 8 in 50 overs. Carl Hooper 57 not out, Gordon Greenidge 36, Winston Benjamin 31, Desmond Haynes 20. Bowling for India: Maninder Singh took 3 for 48 from 8 overs.  Ravi Shastri 2 for 24 from 10 overs. India 193 all out 44.4 overs.  Kapil Dev 87, Kiran More 33, Ravi Shastri 20. Bowling for West Indies: Patrick Patterson took 6 for 29 from 9.4 overs.
Vivian Richards 6 for 41 versus India New Delhi, Nehru Cup October 27nd 1989 – Result:  West Indies won by 20 runs. Scores: West Indies 196 for 9 45 overs.  Richie Richardson 57, Skipper Vivian Richards 44, Malcolm Marshall 27. Bowling for India: Chetam Sharma took 3 for 46 from 9 overs, Arshad Ayub 2 for 55 from 9 overs. India 176 all out in 41.4 overs. Raman Lamba 61, Mahinder  Amarnath 23, Ravi Shastri 20. Bowling for the West Indies Skipper Vivian Richards took 6 for 41 from 9.4 overs.
Anthony Gray 6 for 50 versus Australia, Queens Park Oval March 9th 1991 – Result: Australia won by 45 runs. Scores: Australia 172 for 9 in 34 overs. Dean Jones 67, Steve Waugh 26, Geoff Marsh 23. Bowling for the West Indies: Anthony Gray took 6 for 50 in 9 overs.  West Indies 127 all out 31.1 overs. Desmond Haynes 45, Skipper Vivian Richards 27, Philip Simons 13. Bowling for Australia:  Craig McDermott took 3 for 29 from 7.1 overs, Mike Whitney 3 for 41 from 9 overs. Mark Waugh 2 for 6 from 2 over.
Fidel Edwards 6 for 22 is the best figures by any bowler on One Day International Debut versus Zimbabwe 2003 at Harare Sports Club – Result: West Indies won by 72 runs. Scores: West Indies 256 for 3 45 overs.  Wavell Hinds 127 not out. Chris Gayle 51, Ramnaresh Sarwan 47. Bowling for Zimbabwe, Heath Streak, Garey Brent and Sean Ervine took a wicket each. Zimbabwe 150 for 7 in 32 overs. Tatenda Taibu 66, Sean Ervin 38 not out, Bowling for the West Indies: Fidel Edwards took 6 for 22.
Sunil Narine 6 for 27 from 9.5 overs. West Indies versus South Africa National Stadium Providence – Result: West Indies won by 4 wickets. Scores: South Africa 188 all out 46.5 overs.  Riley Rossouw 61. Skipper  A B Devillers 31, Quinton Decock 30. Bowling for West Indies: Sunil Narine took 6 for 27 from 9.5 overs, Carlos Braithwaite took 2 for 38 in 8 overs.  West Indies 191 for 6 from 48.1 overs. Kieran Pollard 67 not out, Johnson Charles 31, Daren Bravo 30.  Bowling for South Africa: Aaron Phangiso took 3 for 40 from 10 overs, Imran Tahir took 2 for 41 from 10 overs.
