It takes a big heart for one to take on the challenge of investing in developing young people in a professional setting in Guyana with virtually your own funding with the hope that corporate entities will see the need to support.
This vision and has been playing out ever since the formation of Slingerz Football Club (SFC) based at Vergeenogen on the West Coast of Demerara on January 30, 2013. They have rapidly taken on the position as the number one club in Guyana, no mean feat in such a short period.
SFC’s rise has come at a time when the football landscape in Guyana is not at its best but there are good signs that better days are ahead.
The club has been the flagship team for the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) and has been the team in the inaugural Guyana Football Federation organised STAG Elite League having won the Genesis and are the current leaders in the Finale; on track for the double.
The chief tactician of the club is experienced National Coach Joseph ‘Bill’ Wilson who is a Teacher by profession, no doubt he has been able to quietly put together a bunch of players who have established themselves as the best in Guyana and will be aiming to transfer this form when they play in the Scotiabank Caribbean Football Union club Championships next year.
Following is a brief on the achievements of the club to date.
Stag Elite League Genesis

Over the course of the past two years the club has engaged in three (3) nationwide and four (4) constituency tournaments apart from one Goodwill tourney. – SFC after acquiring New Head Coach Mr. Joseph ‘Bill’ Wilson in October 2014, has never lost a game or tournament. The attitude of winning started under Player/Coach Vurlon Mills who led the club in its revenge game against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in the Guyana Festival celebration game at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence before Wilson took over the leadership up to present.
