Riders at every level from Guyana’s 11 registered clubs are expected as well as the overseas based Pros to be firing up for this year’s National Cycling Championships under the auspices of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF).
Hamza Eastman powers to the finish line to be crowned 2015 National Raod Race King ahead of the now banned Alanzo Greaves and Geron Williams.
This is the federation’s marquee and it is the desire of every cyclist to don the national champion’s jersey which is worn for the entire year after winning, a symbol of being the best in the Senior (Elite), Junior, Veteran and Female categories.
For the first time also, the Time Trials (June 18) will be held at Mahaicony on the East Coast of Demerara as will the Road Race for Juniors, Veterans and Ladies on Sunday June 19th. The Time Trials will start at 08:00hrs while the Road Race will pedal off at 11:00hrs.
The Junior and Veterans will cover a distance of 50 miles (8.5 laps) while the Ladies will do 25 miles (4 laps).
Also for the first time, the seniors (Elite) will not be competing on the 19th but one week later, June 26th around the Outer Circuit of the National Park where they will cover a distance of 75 miles which translates to 30 laps around the circuit; pedaling off at 11:00hrs.
The clubs expected to participate are Alanis, Carlton Wheelers, Team Coco’s, Continental, Flying Ace, Flying Stars, Linden Bauxite Flyers, Roraima Bikers, Team Evolution, Trojan and United We Stand.
