Dear Editor,
The political life in Guyana has a distinct feature that does not gravitate to the general human population. After fifty years someone who has lived through these years can possibly determine the statistics and status of a nation. Demographics; the characteristics of a human population or part of it, especially its size, growth, density, distribution and statistics regarding birth [life], marriage disease and death- dictionary meaning.
The statistics of this nation is the simplest of equation known to a Secondary school student; but the status of the nation speaks volumes of what we are made of, in regards to prominence, integrity, moral standings, position, prestige and ambience of the nation. For the years that have gone by Guyana has been under the demographics radar. Yes, we have had many births and deaths in every era of national life; we have also seen life situation played out in the most unusual ways.
For instance, we struggle as a nation to embrace a unique way of leadership that would transport us to our destiny. We seem to be a nation in distress, despair and discouragement. Our leaders have not step up to the task of nation building in the most excellent way, although we produced brilliant minds and top scholars. This indeed is a mystery only God Almighty can explain. But one thing is certain our purpose in reaching our destiny has not been fulfilled.
The scheme of life, when carefully analyzed, reveals an amazing acronym with the word – CROWN. The ‘C’ speaks of Challenges. Yes the realities of Challenges – those every day trials, testing and temptations we face as Nation they are real, and it seems as though we lack the navigational skills or the inspiration to rally through the storms of life. The’ R’ speaks of Rewards. Yes, the dimensions or magnitude of rewards. This is the realm of which I am somewhat mystified. One question stands out in my mind.
How is it we did not reap a harvest of prosperity/maturity when our labour merited it?
It seems as though the Creator who orchestrates the promotion of nations on the merit of their righteousness has held up our rewards. Then comes the ‘O’ which comes to my analytical mind reveals opportunities. Yes the dynamics of opportunities. The amazing thing about opportunities is, it is described as a set of circumstances that presents itself in a timely fashion, making it possible to do something positive or negative.
It seems as if the opportunities over the years that presented itself evaded us when we opt to do foolishly or negatively. There are golden or glorious opportunities in the scheme of life.
Fourthly, there is the ‘W’ which speaks of work. Yes the pleasure of work. Are we a lazy people? I would say no. but the distinct feature of our work is that many of us do not see or discern the pleasures that come with work. We created a mantra some years ago, and we connect to it, passing it on to each passing generation. ‘Hard work doesn’t kill’.
Tapping into the concept, that some degree of pleasure should find its way into our lives when at work, will bring great satisfaction. Many working Guyanese find it unpleasant, tedious laborious and difficult going to work every day and not able to pay their bills.
You often times hear people say.’ Dis wuk is stresses’.
Finally, the key factor in the ‘CROWN’ analysis – the last letter ‘N’ Yes the ‘Now’ factor, means today not tomorrow nor next week. That there is the need to be urgent; Now speaks of being inspirational, transformational, spiritual, and Biblical – being sensitive to what is before us, and knowing what is coming after, and Being diligent and thoughtful in making the right decisions on our feet. Doing it now and not later would change the way we think as a nation or individual. Understanding calculated risk and being audacious and bold in our deliberation and decisions will bring this nation into honor and riches. Being visionaries will move us faster and safer to our goals. Now the C.R.O.W.N. analysis in the scheme of life will work for any individual or nation as they travel along life’s pathway. Let us all, as Guyanese embrace this new concept and receive our C.R.O.W.N. Celebrate with the Lord Jesus our 50th ANNIVERSARY JUBILEE.
