The celebrations of Guyana 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations has indeed taken on significant importance in Guyana with persons and organisations in every sphere of Guyanese life making use of the opportunity
to celebrate the noteworthy achievement.
The Kendall’s Union Sports Club of (the No 19) East Coast Berbice area recently joined with the Kintyre-Borlam NDC to host a successful senior citizens day at the club’s cricket ground on the 26th May, 2016.
The inaugural activity saw some 60 senior citizens given food hampers and treated to a grand lunch. The chairman for the NDC Mr. Basant Singh Persaud in opening remarks welcomed everyone present and commended the club for hosting such a significant event.
The Club’s President Mr. Albert Budhoo stated that they were very excited and happy to be a part of such an event, to celebrate Guyana’s Jubilee Independence Anniversary and to show appreciation to the senior citizens.
He thanked the invitees for their presence at the function and stated that the senior citizens are mostly forgotten and are not treated with the love and respect they deserve. He added that the club will make it an annual event and this is just one of the many community projects for the club in 2016.
The invitees expressed their gratitude to the club and the NDC for such a wonderful gesture, expressing their pleasure to being a part of something that signifies Guyana’s Jubilee Independence celebrations. They stated that the event was the first of its kind for the community and wished the organisers well in their future endeavours.
