Joseph “Reds” Perreira hosts interactive session with journalists

Legendary Guyanese broadcaster Joseph “Reds” Perreira yesterday held an interactive session with Journalists at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) secretariat.

The 77-year-old broadcaster, who hails from Pomeroon in Essequibo but now resides in St. Lucia, was very happy to share ideas and give tips to journalists, especially to younger ones to assist in the quality of their reporting.
He stressed on the importance of not just carrying press releases ‘as is’ and finishing there but to follow up on possible areas because what you can get out of it, is important.
He also reminded journalists to be more involved in the particular sport being covered, to be present at games and to not always depend on gathering of information by phone calls. He also noted that the public prefers to see the journalists at events.
He encouraged television companies to record as much of the game that is possible because it is important to capture the events that would lead to the final results. Interviews with coaches and parents, especially mothers of athletes was also high on the agenda of the former Georgetown Football Club (GFC) goalkeeper who made his first division debut for the club at only 16 years old.
The former football coach also touched on the importance of building personalities by urging journalists to place emphasis on not only teams but on players, coaches and officials.
Perreira talked about his autobiography “Living my Dreams” and also credited the GFF for making the session possible.
