Guyanese Jeetendra Sookdeo and Narsingh Deonarine turned in commendable performances for their club
Merry Boys in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board division one league which continued recently.
Sookdeo slammed an unbeaten 103 and 56 not out, helping his team to a one wicket victory over Victoria who scored 251 all out, batting first, with another Guyanese Rangana Latchana scoring 72; Lincoln Roberts made 84. Sookdeo’s innings led his team to 277 in reply. Victoria were bowled out for 171, batting a second time. Andrew Bryce got 51 as Aniel Kanhai claimed 5-65. Set 145 to win, Merry Boys suffered some nervous moments before achieving victory as they finished on 148-9. Sookdeo was the main stay of his team innings scoring 56, while Ameer Jangoo made 55.
Deonarine stroked an unbeaten 126, but Merry Boys conceded first innings to Clark Road United in a rain affected game. Deonarine’s innings propelled his team to 289, batting first. Sookdeo managed 24. Clark Road United responded with 291 with Jet Gullein scoring 68.
The Guyanese were again among the runs in their fixture against Alescon Comets which was also affected by rain. In reply to Comets first innings 276 of which Richard Primas made 68, Merry Boys got to 271. Deonarine scored 58 and Sookdeo 47. Comets were 110-8 in their second turn at the crease when the rain came.
Sookdeo, who plays locally for the Georgetown Cricket Club, got consecutive half centuries against top of the table Queens Park CC- a fixture which the latter won. He has notched up 434 runs at an average of 61. (Zaheer Mohamed)
