A 27-year-old man was killed in an accident on the Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, at around 04:45 hrs yesterday.
The victim has been identified as Rajeshwar Rampadaratt of 423 Block X Belvedere Village, Corentyne. Rampadaratt was a labourer attached to a construction company.
Information gathered stated that the young man was on his way to work and attempted to cross the road when he was hit by an oil tanker attached to GuySuCo.
The driver of the vehicle is currently in police custody.
The dead man’s mother, Vilma Mootooveeren told this publication that she last saw her son on Monday evening before she went to bed. The woman added that she received a phone call at 06:00 hrs the same morning, by relatives, informing her that her son was involved in an accident.
“When me get de call, me didn’t go out, but he brother and sister rush out and dem tell me seh when dem go out, he bin done dead and he bin bleeding through he mouth and he hand”.
Meanwhile residents in the area stressed that no impact was heard at the time of the accident. One resident who operates a business a few blocks away mentioned that his security cameras caught only a glimpse of the accident.
Investigations are ongoing.
