A businessman who was shot more than six months ago is pleading with the Guyana Police
Force (GPF) for justice.
The man, Fizool Mohamed, was shot to the left knee on November 25, last, by two armed bandits in front of his business place at Zorg, Essequibo.
The armed men escaped with one 45-pennyeight gold chain and an 18-penny weight gold band.
Yesterday, Mohamed said that since his ordeal, he has received no justice from the police. The man said that after he was shot, the cops arrested one of the suspects and subsequently placed him on bail—that was the end of the matter.
“The guy who they arrested, is one of the bandits and it has been months and nothing is being done,” Mohamed stated.
He said that he called the station many times to follow up the matter but no one there could have given him an answer.
“I don’t know what to do and I don’t know where to go. This is getting really frustrated,” Mohamed said.
On the night of the shooting, the businessman said that the men approached him while he was sitting on a bench in front of his shop. He said that one of the bandits had on a cap and a handkerchief wrapped around his face.
Mohamed added that the second suspect was armed. It was when he refused to hand over his jewelry that he was shot. The men discharged three rounds before escaping.
To date, he has undergone two surgeries and still cannot walk as per normal. The last surgery cost him $1.2M.
Meanwhile, a senior police source when contacted said that the matter is under investigation.
He explained that when the incident first took place, the businessman pointed out two individuals. When ranks placed those persons before the court, the businessman then claimed that they were not the persons.
The source said that it is because of this that the matter is still under investigation. “He almost put the police in trouble because the two people he said rob him; we charged them and then he come and say some other person.”
