Dear Editor;
As a stakeholder in the Logging Timber Industry allows me to add my voice against this clear attempt to distort the fact and malign the G.F.C Management. After reading about the big hullabboo concerning the Joint Venture involving the “Chinese Logger’s” I find it fitting to comment on some facts which in my opinion is being hidden from “Public Domain”.
Firstly, these “Joint Ventures” came in being as a result of requests made by stakeholders for intervention. These companies were called upon as a result of routine checks with regard to non-compliance and non¬performance etc to ensure compliance with benchmark established. Subsequently, a few complained about financial constraints, marketing outlet etc.
It was on this basis that “Joint Venture” was created. The issue of “Joint Technical Sub-committee” was discussed by “Joint Technical Sub-committee” then by the “G.F.C’S Board”. The issue was thoroughly deliberated on. The issue which was very much out in the “Public Domain” being published on G.F.C’s website and open for Comments and criticism.
Secondly, the Chinese Logging Company has roughly 600,000 thousand hectares of forest and there is a big cry about “Rate of Forest” what about Barama who has over 1 Million Hectares; we have Demerara Woods Willen Timber, A. Mazaharally and Sons, Toolsie Persaud LTD, just to name a few. Coming to look at it from a stakeholder’s point of view before the Chinese loggers came the “Timber” logging industry was struggling . The Chinese loggers actually brought along a “gainful!” revolution to the logging industry.
Thirdly, another point of concern is the fact the Ministry of Finance, after receiving “The Managing Board Response Report” on the Forensic Audit, did not see it fit to reveal the “Managing Board Response Report” as presented by Mr. Goolsaran. This was subsequently published, showing a clear indication of an attempt to distort the facts and malign the G.F.C’s Administration. Making no mention of G.F.0 properly and routinely monitoring the logging Industry and its stakeholders to ensure these companies comply with benchmark standards.
I would like to suggest that in future Mr. David Hinds and Kaieteur News should visit the G.F.C’s website before publishing these distorting allegations.
