Dear Editor,
We are daunted by the many ills presently pervading our region and in particular the people as a whole.lt is incumbent upon every citizen to work and to be supportive to the government. The nation expects government will establish policies to augment health, safety, security and economic protection to keep the engine of growth at a persistent level parallel to other countries. We have received political change from betterment that was with the passing of time to date we expect to achieve best practice. However the present pattern indicates the future to be dull.
Today the security of this nation is threatened by the in ability of the police to get above the criminals plaguing our society. The prevalence of crime if not arrested quickly, it will be inimical to economic development and stimulate migration. Many businesses will close because of fear as to who will be the next victim. We demand maximum effort to end this episode of the nation as it eats away at the base of national development and society as a whole.
One of our main foreign currency earners suffered blows with the loss of lucrative markets and prices which create financial burden to the rice industry, reduce growth of the nation, and impact on people’s lives. Mammoth effort is needed to replace what is lost by the relevant ministry.
The announcement of the imminent closure of Wales’s sugar estate is yet another blow to this nation economic well being and will impact sternly upon lives of people living in Region 3. We are sure by prudent management this estate can turn out to be profitable and adds to the nation’s coffer. We intend to engage government and co-ordinate efforts to stop this un- realistic announcement. We need government to establish agro-processing plant to facilitate the preservation of excessive un- marketed and perishable farm produce.
In short REGION 3 request the following:-
A—Stamp out illegal trade.
B—Encumbrance of roads and reserves.
C—By pass roads in congested areas.
D—Develop new roads
E—Provide farm land to youth as alternate to unemployment and training.
F—Establish industrial site to create employment.
G—-Utilise market tarmac for vending.
The chamber is eager to enter into dialoged with all stake holders for national development.
