The Christian community has planned a massive rally in commemoration of the country’s Jubilee Independence anniversary. The rally is slated for today at D’Urban Park, Georgetown.
The programme will include worship, thanksgiving, celebration, prayers of reconciliation and preaching of the word of God. It begins at 16:00hrs.
A release issued by the Georgetown Ministers Fellowship (GMF), Guyana Council of Churches (GCC) and the Guyana Evangelic Fellowship (GEF) stated, “Within the Christian community the observance of this significant milestone in our nation’s history began several months ago with a series of seminars, under the auspices of GMF, focusing on issues which we believe have a direct nexus to nation building.
“In addition, several local churches and denominations are organizing Jubilee-related activities. Other programmes will be initiated over the coming months.”
The Christian community believes that God’s plan for Guyana is for it to be united and prosperous.
“It is out of that conviction we pray and work to see the fulfillment of such a God-given vision for our country. The 50th anniversary, therefore, affords an opportune moment for us to once again emphasize the importance of racial unity, healing and reconciliation if we as a people are to experience the fullness of God and successfully advance.”
“A nation divided against itself will not stand. Nation unity is essential for national development. Our national motto calls us to the aspiration and resolve: One People; One Nation: One Destiny”, the release added.
