A Networking Administrator of Ogle International Airport Inc was granted $160,000 bail yesterday after he denied forging another man’s signature on a deed of gift and transfer three years ago.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the City Court, Orin McKay, 60, of 2628 Manatee Place, South Ruimveldt Park, is accused of defrauding his family’s property to obtain one individual half share of the said residence where he lives.
Police say on July 26, 2012 at Georgetown with the intent to defraud, McKay endeavoured to obtain one individual half share of the said lot, by virtue of an application by way of Deed of Gift knowing that the signature purporting to be that of the donor William Vibert Halley was forged.
He is also alleged to have committed the same offence, on October 17 of the same year but this time by way of Deed of Transfer he forged the man’s signature on a transfer.
His lawyer, Kevon Bess, told the court that his client was released on his own recognisance from charges that were held in the High Court regarding the forgery.
He told the court that the alleged documents were signed by a Justice of Peace called Mr. Cox. He swore in a witness box before the court to the truth of the documents.
Bess further declared that the documents were prepared by an Attorney named Bernand Smith where the signatures were affixed.
The lawyer told the Magistrate that no investigations were done into the matter and asked that a hand specialist/signature analyst investigate if the documents were truly forged.
The lawyer later asked that his client be released on reasonable bail “or be placed on his own recognisance” the lawyer said.
However, Prosecutor Corporal Dinero Jones who did not object to bail objected strongly to the defendant being released on his own recognisance.
He told the court that the investigations have been complete in the matter and a statement by the virtual complainant confirms that he did not place his signature on any of the documents.
Jones, who said his file is ready for the court, recommended that bail be granted in a substantial sum for the defendant.
The Chief Magistrate then ruled in his favour and had McKay released on $160,000 bail.
