Dear Editor,
On the matter of conflict of interest in government ministries, another ministry I am urging the anti-corruption watchdog group Transparency Institute of Guyana (TIGI) to investigate is the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs. The principal regional development officer (PRDO) Mr. Anil Roberts who according to Amerindians is alleged to have several cars is presently in a conflict of interest situation at the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs. Roberts is the owner of an indigenous restaurant by the name of “Tocuma” which is situated on Waterloo Street and one Colin Andrews is the manager. Roberts it is alleged is using his position at the Ministry to get all of the Ministry’s catering contracts for Amerindian dishes.
It is further alleged this is done with the endorsement of the Permanent Secretary (PS) Vibert Welch thereby excluding other Amerindians who will no longer be asked to provide catering services for Amerindian heritage month celebrations and other functions. Let me repeat these ae mere allegations. Is Vice-President and Minister of Indigenous Peoples Affairs, Sydney Allicock not aware that unacceptable practices are taking place in the ministry he heads on Thomas Street? If he is aware then President Granger needs to have both Roberts Anil Roberts and Minister Allicock transferred to another ministry or demit their respective offices. In the meanwhile, TIGI needs to launch an investigation into the conflict of interest situation of Anil Roberts, a senior Public Servant at the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs.
