The Independence T20 Softball tournament which is being organised by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc in collaboration with the National Sports Commission will now commence on Saturday.
The competition was set to bowl off last weekend but play was called off with out a ball being bowled due to the inclement weather which left the venues waterlogged.
The teams have been placed in two zones and will play each other once with the top two from each zone going through to the semi finals which will be contested on Sunday; the final will be played on June 4.
Zone A is comprised of Choke Success Masters, Parika Defenders, Fisherman XI and Tropical Springs while zone B includes Ariel, Albion, Regal and Mike’s Wellman. Matches are slated for the Malteenoes Sports Club, GNIC SC, Gandhi Youth Organisation and Ogle SC.
The winning team will take home a trophy and $200,000 while the runner up will receive a trophy and $50,000.
In the opening fixtures Choke Success Masters will face Tropical Springs, Parika Defenders will play Fisherman XI, Ariel will take on Mike’s Wellman and Albion will face Regal.
In the second round, Success will battle Parika, Fisherman XI will challenge Tropical Springs, Albion will entertain Ariel and Regal will take on Mike’s Wellman.
The third round will see Success facing Fisherman XI, Parika playing Tropical Springs, Ariel matching skills with Regal and Albion doing battle with Mike’s Wellman.
Mike’s Copy Centre, Ink Plus and WJ Enterprise have joined Regal Stationery and Computer Centre and Regal Sports as the sponsors.
Action gets underway at 09:30 hrs.
