As drug dealers continue to use their network to ply their trade, the police are stepping up their vigilance as they move to deal condignly with the situation. This alertness yesterday morning led to the capture of a drug dealer who had allegedly travelled over 50 miles to secure supplies to continue his dealings.
Around 10:30 hrs, a Police mobile patrol unit was traversing the Cumberland, East Canje Public Road, when they noticed a man walking on the said thoroughfare acting in a suspicious manner. He had a bag in his possession.
He was stopped and challenged to say what he had in the bag. He initially resisted and told the cops that he would usually walk and sell, and it was his commodities that were in the bag. However, the cops did not believe his story and conducted a search of the bag that unearthed leaves, seeds and stems of what was suspected to be the marijuana plant.
He was told of the offence, arrested and taken into custody. The contents were eventually weighed and tested to be 321 grams of marijuana.
