Attorney Gaumatie Singh was on Monday placed before the courts and charged with the offence of dangerous driving.
Singh, 60, of Prashad Nagar, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on May 1, on Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara, she drove motorcar PSS 9309 in a manner dangerous to the public.
The charge was read to her by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
The defendant, who was represented by Attorney Adrian Thompson in association with Nigel Hughes, was released on her own recognizance (self bail).
Police Sergeant Ayesha Gibbons represented the prosecution and had no objections to Singh being admitted to pre-trial liberty.
According to court facts, the attorney was proceeding east along the northern side of Success Access Road on the day in question. The vehicle then turned south onto the Access Road and collided with another motorcar (PFF 3529). As a result, the driver of that vehicle ran into a motor van. All three vehicles received damage. No one was injured.
Investigations were carried out and Singh was charged.
During her attorneys’ petition for bail, they told the court that the woman is not a flight risk.
The prosecutor indicated that investigations are complete.
This matter has been adjourned until June 28, for reports.
