The decomposed body of an East Canje man was discovered Friday evening by residents of No. 2 East Canje, Berbice area, who reported a foul smell emanating from a house in the area.
The 74-year-old retired Headmaster Henry Ramlokhan Gobin who was described as very reserved and quiet, was last seen alive by relatives three weeks ago.
According to information disclosed by relatives of the deceased, they were given permission to bury the man on Friday but were told that there was no one available to dig the grave.
Relatives said that the body was iced and left in the home. Paul Gobin, 43, the dead man’s nephew added that he was subsequently told by the police on Saturday that they could not bury the dead because a post mortem has to be conducted.
“They supposed to find somewhere to put da dead cause da smell ain’t nice at all and is people living hay and gotta deal wid da stink smell everyday till dey move he”.
