Over 100 athletes converged at Mandela and Homestretch Avenue yesterday to participate in a fitness walk organised by the Rising Star Track Club in collaboration with the Office of the President in observance of Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
The event which commenced at 16:30hrs at Mandela Avenue and continued into Homestretch Avenue before heading into Hadfield Street and concluded at the National Sports Commission (Homestretch Avenue), saw athletes battling in several categories.
Winston Missigher won the male 10k event and Cleveland Thomas placed second, while Euleen Josiah-Tanner won the female segment ahead of Ashanti Scott.
The male 5K race was taken by Oudwin Theodore, while Shenika Tyrell copped the female division.
Murphy Mash took the 13-15 category followed by Shirman Bobb and Brandon Johnson while Shaka Tyrell took the female title in the said division ahead of Serena Williams and Sheanna Tyrell respectively.
Each participant received a jubilee medal and T-Shirt while the winners received bicycles.
The event was sponsored by GT and T, E-Networks, Banks DIH, Ansa Mc Al, Toucan Industries Inc, TGF, BK Inc, IVI PS, Metro, Car Care, Star Party Rentals, Wartsila, Cornona Extra, S and L Electrical, Real Value, Payless, Kevin Jeffery and Indigenous Ministry.
