During the recent airing of the 98th edition of the Maximum Sports Programme hosted by Max Massiah, the newly formed Guyana All-Styles Martial Arts Federation (GASMAF) recognised the contribution of Guyana Wado-Ryu Karate Association (GWRKA) chief instructor Sensei Winston Dunbar for his service and participation in Martial Arts for 50 years.

Sensei Dunbar, a 7th Degree black belt (Shian) started his involvement in martial arts in March 1966. Back then he was based at Lithographic Karate Club and he later became one of the founders of the Guyana Wado-Ryu Karate Association and the Guyana Karate Federation along with notable practitioners Sensei Frank Woon-a-Tai, Alex Waithe and Professor Stephen Monasingh.
Sensei Dunbar attended the World championships in Los Angeles, USA in 1975 and in 2007 received the International Olympic Committee (IOC) award in recognition of his contribution to the development of karate in Guyana. He was also appointed Technical Adviser for Wado Ryu for the Caribbean and Guyana by Grand Master Hironori Otsuka.
The Wado Ryu currently trains out of the Banks DIH Sports Club where Sensei Dunbar is the man in charge.
