The eight cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS would shortly be undertaking one of their largest ever community development projects when they start the construction of a family recreational park in
memory of the Club’s first Honorary Patron and late Executive President of Guyana, Hugh Desmond Hoyte. The teams – Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under 15, Rose Hall Town Bakewell Under 17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under 19 and Intermediate, Metro Females and Gizmos and Gadgets Under 21 and First Division will be investing as much as $2M to construct the Recreational Park, which would be situated right in front of the Area ‘H’ Ground.
Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster, who is in charge of the project planning and coordination along with the cricket teams, stated that its objectives are to provide recreation and relaxation for families, to promote social cohesion among residents, to encourage families to spend time together and to play a part in the promotion of the Club’s highly successful Say No to Drugs, Crime, Suicide and Yes to Life, Education and Sports Programme.
The 150’ by 50’ feet playfield would involve the construction of a Benab, permanent seating, flower garden, swings, slides, see-saws among others, while the entire park would be decorated with a family friendly setting. The venue would be open to members of the public and the Club would also on a monthly basis organise events for families while numerous sporting events would also be organised in an effort to get youths interested in a sports career. The long-serving Secretary/CEO stated that the park would be named after the Club’s first Honorary Patron as it was the late Executive President who inspired the RHTYSC, MS to transform itself from a mere cricketing Club into Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation with over 300 programmes/projects annually.
The Club has already secured the cooperation of several major partners with Regional Chairman David Armogan committing the RDC, Region 6 to leveling and preparing the venue and to providing several truckloads of white sand to do landscaping. Popular Sawmiller, Tony Amerally of Amerally Sawmills has also donated close to $200,000 worth of materials to fence the playfield. Minister of Social Protection, Volda Lawrence has also committed $500,000 to the project, while the Ministry of Health would also be contributing.
The Mayor and Town Council of Rose Hall Town in late 2015 had given permission for the Club to use the proposed venue.
The RHTYSC, MS would like to express profound gratitude to MR. Tony Amerally of Amerally Sawmills for his contribution to the fencing materials.
The cricket teams hopes to complete the entire project by mid-August and intends to invite the Club’s Honorary Patron President David Granger to declare open it.
