Dear Editor,
I reside in the Parafaite Housing Scheme and received a supply of electricity from the Guyana Power and Light. I am however dissatisfied with the low voltage and frequent black outs received. I am more dissatisfied and upset though over the numerous times the supply of electricity to my home has been cut off for non-payment apparently, by contractors employed by the company when this should not have been done.
Since 2014, on the following dates 15th August, 13th September, 11th October 2014, 14th May 2015, the supply was cut off: – Reconnection was done after I visited the Office at Vreed-en-Hoop with my receipts to confirm that payment was done on time. Each time I visited the office to complain I received an apology and arrangements were made for the reconnection to be done.
In. April 2016, the contractor disconnected the supply on the 14th. I visited the office once again and expressed my disgust. Arrangement was made for the reconnection to be done and I received an apology. I was informed in order to prevent a recurrence a force entry had to be attached to the account indicating that the lights should not be disconnected. I been given nothing to show to the contractors mind you (each month there are different contractors) if they come once more.
Surprisingly on May 12th, at 11:06 am the disconnection was done again. I visited the office again where it was discovered that there was another mistake and I was promised reconnection. All of the reconnections above except May 12T” I had to wait until after 10:00 pm to get reconnected. Regrettable to the time of writing at 9:30 am on the 13th of May the power is still off. I publicise this situation, hoping that I may never, never again be faced with this embarrassment.
