A carpenter who police say fatally stabbed another man during a food row, was yesterday charged with murder when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The accused Mark Anthony Barclay, 37, of Lot 38 Houston Back Street, East Bank Demerara stood in handcuffs in the prisoner’s docks to face an indictable charge of murder.
The charge read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan stated that the accused murdered Gordon Ross on April 30, last, at John and Hadfield Streets, Werk-en-Rust.
Barclay who told the court that he does wood work for a living was unrepresented by a legal attorney.
Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told the court that the file was currently incomplete since the post mortem report was still outstanding. His matter was adjourned until June 13th for report.
According to reports, in the wee of hours of the morning around 01:40 hrs Barclay and the deceased had a fight over food where Ross was reportedly later found with stab wounds about his body. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
