Special treat in place as over 70 entered
One of the biggest crowds expected to witness a horserace meet in Guyana in recent times are expected to jam the Port Mourant Turf Club for the Jubilee Independence horserace spectacle set for this Sunday.
Organised by the “Four Horsemen Promotion Group” the event has all the ingredients for an international affair and the signature sporting event for the Independence Anniversary.
The Meet is so far the talk of the town and turfites can’t wait to see Guyana’s top horses in action as all the top runners in the country have been entered.
There are eight races on the day’s card with over $8M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs.
What makes the event more interesting is that an overseas based horse is already here to compete, something that has not happen in decades.
The handlers do not want to release much on the animal as yet. But what is known is that the animal, Wize Secret, which is owned by Tariq Abdoelrahman of The Club Neutraal Stable will be competing in the D category. The animal is trained by Danny Gummels and has been looking good at exercise and is expected to give a good account of itself. How it fears against the Guyanese runners is left to be seen. A few other new entries which have just arrived in the country will also be in action.
The feature event for animals classified “A” and lower is however inspected to take the cake. With a sumptuous first prize of $1.5M and the 50th Independence Anniversary Cup from a total package of over $3M covering a grueling 1900M. All the top animals have been entered including CP Got Even, Just call Me Boss, Plum Plum, Princess She Not, new sensations Kings Knight and Golden Blue Echo and Jack In My Style, American Boss, Lady Budapest and Carrie Azarie.
It is no secret that the Surinamese champion Wize Secret will be competing in the race for D3 and lower horses with less than $100,000 earnings within the last 6 months, E and F class and Lower horses for the $750,000 and trophy other 1400M. However, newly imported Media Day and Because I Say So will be looking to make some immediate impact, but with animals such Release the Beast and Campador in the line anything can happen.
The other races are the G and lower and West Indies bred event over 1200M for a winner take of $350,000 and trophy.
The H2 and lower event over 1000M for a winning pocket of $300,000 and trophy.
The three year old event for Guyana bred horses and West Indies bred non winners over $100,000 for a first prize of of $250,000 and trophy over 1000M.
Horses classified I3 and lower will race for a winner’s purse of $200,000 and trophy over 1200M.
Horses classified J3 and K and lower will be competing for a winner’s take of $175,000 and trophy over 1200M.
There is also an event for horses classified K and L and lower over 1000M for a purse of $150,000 and trophy.
Other top animals expected to strut their stuff on race day include Cat Messiah, Caricom Dancer, Glamour Queen, It’s My Choice, Red Jet, Liquid Lion, settling Star, Red Regent, Blue Lightning, Atlantic Storm, Witchy Poo, Quincy, Massiquita Dr, Super Bowl, Fireing Line, Affinity, Party Time, Daddy Dollar, Little, Something Special, She Is Royal, American Pharo Jet, Dem Ah watch Me, Progressive Kid, Replace D heat, Show Time, Dirt man, Time Dance, Rosetta, Plane land, Key For the Killer, Golden Kiss, Amazon Warrior, Golden Sand, She In Control, Miss Kristina, Run Happy, Red Rocket and Isn’t She Charming are among the other entries expected to compete so far.
A number of local and overseas companies and individuals are on board.
Apart from the riveting action expected on race day, there will also be a number of giveaways and incentives for both participants and spectators on race day including a fair play prize of US$150 for a jockey that displays the most discipline throughout the day.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the Trophy Stall and the organizers. Thunderbolt Sound System will be ripping up the arena with pulsating music.
