Lennox Braithwaite is trailing WIFBSC President, Trinidadian Norris Gomez by two points after two of three rounds that should have been contested on yesterday’s opening day of the 2016 championships being contested at the Crabbs Fullbore Range in Antigua.
Gomez ended a flawless day by achieving two possibles at the 300 and 500 yards ranges, the 600 yards range shoot did not come off due to some technical glitches which the organizing nation was able to sort out. The 600 yards range will be contested today and will see the 53 shooters matching shots at 4-ranges including 2 at 600.
Gomez won the 300 yards shoots with a score of 50.6 from Jamaica’s Jose Nunez who also achieved a similar score but lost to Gomez on the count back with the Vs. Guyana’s Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud was third dropping a single point along with 6 Vs, while Braithwaite was 9th down with a score of 48.2 underscoring the fierceness of the competition to date. Guyana’s 11 shooters have turned in good performances so far as the table below will show, two more days still remains.
Yesterday’s opening day of action saw the wind blowing at a consistent high pace for the entire day and as some of the seasoned shooters described, “It was not hard to predict despite its consistent and constant pace.”
With four ranges scheduled for today’s penultimate day of action, competitive rivalry is anticipated with the first shot expected to fire at 09:00hrs.
