Suriname race horses “Wise Secret” set to compete

With race day just one week away all systems are falling into place for the much anticipated Jubilee Independence horses race spectacle set for Sunday 22nd May at world famous Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
Organised by the “four horsemen promotion group” the event is expected to see horses arriving from Suriname to compete against their Guyanese counterparts. Among them are top runner Wise Secret which is expected to compete in the D and lower category.
With thousands of Guyanese arriving home for the Jubilee Independence Anniversary celebrations, the event is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events on the Independence sporting calendar. The Port Mourant “Big Yard” arena is expected to be pack to capacity for the riveting action expected on race day.
There are eight races on the day’s card with over $8M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs.
The feature event is for animals classified A’ and lower with a sumptuous first prize of $1.5M and the 50th Independence Anniversary Cup from a total package of close to $ 3M over a grueling 1900M. The line up so far is one of the best for some time in the Guyana horses racing circle for a feature event with C. P Got Even, Just call Me Boss, Plum Plum,, Princess She Not expected to renew their rivalry. However they will have their work cut out and will definitely have to be at their best to beat new sensations including Kings Knight and Golden Blue Echo, both animals having won their first races in Guyana with consummate ease. Also expected to feature are Jack In My Style, American Boss and Carrie Azarie.
The event for horses classified D3 and lower with less than $100,000 earnings within the last 6 months, E and F class and Lower horses for the $750,000 and trophy other 1400M event also has a competitive field so far . Wise Secret of Suriname will be running against the likes of Big Man Boss, Release the Beast, Strom Bird, Because I Said So and the newly imported Media Day will all be looking to have a good day on the turf.
The G and lower and West Indies bred event over 1200M for a winner $350,000 and trophy.
The H2 and lower event over 1000M for a winning pocket of $300,000 and trophy.
The three year old event for Guyana bred horses and West Indies bred non winners over $100,000 for a first prize of of $250,000 and trophy over 1000M.
Horses classified I3 and lower will race for a winner’s purse of $200,000 and trophy over 1200M.
The horses classified J3 and K and lower will be competing for winner’s take of $ 175,000 and trophy over 1200M.
There is also an event for horses classified K and L and lower over 1000M for a winners pocket of $150,000 and trophy.
Other top animals expected to strut their stuff on race day include Cat Messiah Caricom Dance, Glamour Queen, Red Jet, Liquid Lion, settling Star, Red Regent, Blue Lightning, Quincy, Massiquita Dr and Little.
Apart from a number of overseas sponsors, Guyanese sponsors on board include: Banks DIH, Delmur Trading Company, Trophy Stall, Latchman Mohabir, R.N Poonai and Assuria Insurance, Peter Lewis and Sons Associated Construction Company Limited, South Land Company Limited, P and P Investments Limited.
The Government of Guyana is expected to come forward with a significant investment.
Meanwhile the organizers are waiting on words from the Berbice Bridge Company which prides itself as being a good corporate citizen, to say if any concessions will be granted to horses crossing the bridge on race day as part of the Independence anniversary package.
Apart from the riveting action expected on race. There will also be a number of giveaways and incentives for both participants and spectators on race day including a fair play prize of US $150 for a jockey that displays the most discipline throughout the day compliments of Cordwell Bernard of Queens, USA.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the Trophy Stall and the organizers. Thunderbolt Sound System will be ripping up the arena with pulsating music.
