During the opening of bids at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), yesterday, several companies vied for a contract to supply hardware for the Lethem Power Company’s distribution network line. The bidding was done in lots.
The Lethem Power Company is one of six companies held by the Hinterland Electrification Company Incorporated (HECI). HECI was established to implement, maintain and even develop electricity supply systems across the hinterland.
The other companies that HECI serves as a holding company for are the Linden Electricity Company, Mahdia Power and Light Inc., Port Kaituma Power and Light Inc., Matthew’s Ridge Power and Light Inc. and Kwakwani Utilities Inc.
Under the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) for region one, There were several projects that tenders were put out for. One was a multi-million-dollar project for the provision of security services.
Another important project was for the construction of a secondary school at Waramouri, Region One. The engineer’s estimate was $17.9M.
In addition, there was a contract for the construction of the DBST road. The engineer’s estimate was $16M.
Another project under the RDC was for the construction of a reinforced concrete bridge at Arocuro, Mabaruma. The engineer’s estimate was $17.1M.
The RDC also put out a contract for the procurement of an ambulance.
And finally, there was a contract for the rehabilitation of a timber bridge at Papaya, Matarkai. The engineer’s estimate was $14.9M.
