Police have launched an investigation surrounding the shooting of a Port Mourant, Corentyne salesman that occurred at around 20:00 hrs on Sunday.
Safraz Bacchus, 31, was at his home at Lot 21 Portuguese Quarters at the time of the incident.
According to information received, the man was ironing clothes when he noticed a gun through a space in the flooring of his home.
The man immediately began screaming for help as the gunman discharged three rounds into the building – the third hitting Bacchus in his right leg.
The suspects then tried to gain entry into the home using a trap door but were unsuccessful, and made good their escape through the injured man’s backyard.
Bacchus was subsequently rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove the bullet, which reportedly caused intestinal damage. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit in a critical condition.
According to the man’s wife, Sasha Gobin, the attack was not an attempted robbery. The woman alleges that it was a failed attempt to end her husband’s life.
The distraught woman disclosed that her husband is a witness in a murder case that transpired in 2015.
According to her, on Saturday last, her husband disclosed to her that one of the main suspect’s relatives threatened to end his life.
Investigations are ongoing.
