An accident that occurred last Friday on the Kilcoy/Chesney public road, Corentyne, has left one man dead.
The deceased has been identified as Chetram Deonarine, 49, a fisherman of Lot 67 Kilcoy/ Chesney Squatting area.
According to reports received, a 24-year-old driver of motor car PSS 1636, was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the public road at around 11:00 hrs when it was alleged that a Canter truck in front of the car abruptly halted.
The pedal cyclist was at the time attempting to cross to the other side when he ended up in the path of the oncoming motor car.
Reports stated that the driver allegedly applied brakes, but despite his efforts, he collided with the pedal cyclist who was flung a few metres away.
He was subsequently taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the motor car is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
