A 27-year-old man who claimed to be part of the ongoing city clean-up campaign appeared in court yesterday to answer a charge for the 2015 killing of 57-year-old miner Charles Major, whose body was found on a mining camp in Mahdia.
The accused Triston Kenrick Williams, of Lot 9-10 Queen Street, South Cummingsburg, stood in handcuffs to face an indictable murder charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The charge read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan stated that Williams between March 5 and 6, 2015, murdered Major, a miner, at Dickman Hill, Mahdia.
Williams was unrepresented. The matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court where it will be called again on July 8.
According to reports, Major, a father of five, had been found on the evening of March 6 last year after persons reportedly saw him talking to someone prior to his death. It was reported that he was found with several lacerations in a mining camp near Dickman Hill. He later died at the Mahdia Hospital.
Family members reportedly told the media about the shocking news concerning Williams’ death which had devastated their lives since they could not think of anyone who could have wanted to harm him.
