One year on … APNU/AFC coalition holding strong – Prime Minister

First Vice President and Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo, has said that A Partnership for National Unity +Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition is still holding strong after one year, working for the good of all Guyanese.

The Prime Minister during an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), explained that all around the world, it is difficult to maintain coalitions, but the maturity of the leadership of the APNU+AFC alliance has kept it strong.
“It must be to the credit of the APNU+AFC that we are able to remain a stable coalition, a strong coalition and not allow the doomsayers, the naysayers to crack us up because you are dealing with an opposition that thrives on misinformation that thrives on any sign of difference in the government,” he said.
The Prime Minister explained that the Cummingsburg Accord, which brought the coalition together to contest the May 11, 2015 National and General elections, has become a true working partnership.
The coalition garnered 206,817 votes in the General elections and 201,324 in the Regional elections. They won 33 seats in the National Assembly as against the 32 won by the opposition, People’s Progressive Party Civic.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo advised that the Accord will be revised in some parts to strengthen the functions of various officials within the Government. He is reassuring Guyanese that efforts are continuing by all members to ensure the coalition remains strong.
The Prime Minister is confident that the coalition will live up to the expectations of Guyanese. “The hope of all Guyanese is that this coalition pulls through and goes the full course,” and added that, “it will survive.”
