Joshua Ferreira and Diana Angoy, both of the EBFA, emerged as the top male and female with Angoy sharing the top spot with Shawn Parks, both achieving a 76% pass grade, while Ferreira achieved 90%.
The three day course attracted a total of 21 participants, all 14 males passed with three of the females failing to get a pass grade; however, the Head of Referring Department of the GFF Mr Stanley Lancaster has indicated that the three females will be given another opportunity in one week’s time to re-take the examination.
The facilitators of the course were Lancaster, Roy Mc Arthur and Ingram Johnson along with Fitness Instructor, Lindley Langhorne, all FIFA trained officials.
Chairman of the GFF’s Referee’s Committee Mr Dion Inniss, GFF President Mr Wayne Forde and Technical Instructor Mr Roy McArthur all delivered opening remarks encouraging the participants to take the training seriously as they embark on what can be a successful and rewarding referee’s career.
Participants came from Georgetown, East Bank including Kuru Kururu on the Linden Soesdyke Highway and the Guyana Defence Force which had seven (7) attendees.
During the sessions which dealt primarily with the Laws of the Game, the discussions were lively with the participants showing encouraging knowledge and understanding of the basic rules based on the fact that they were and are current players.
The new referees were charged to keep reading and attend training sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Ministry of Education ground from 17:00hrs.
