Hinds and Guyanese relishing Anguilla’s challenge
Defending champion Orville Hinds and his Team Evolution will start as favourites to win the Golden
Jubilee Ministry of Education (MoE)/National Sports Commission (NSC)/Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) Three Stage Cycle Road Race today and tomorrow.
Pedaling off in the Ancient County of Berbice at 07:30hrs outside the Corriverton Police Station to end the first stage at Main and Alexander Streets in New Amsterdam will be the 45-riders who have registered including 9 from Anguilla competing in two teams.
It is anticipated however that the local riders will come out victors given their knowledge of the terrain over the next two days. A number of the nation’s best riders will not be in contention given their campaigns on the international circuit.
Geron Williams is currently riding on the Pro Circuit in the USA. Team Coco’s, Raynauth Jeffrey, Jaime Ramirez, Hamza Eastman, Stepano Husbands, Jamaul John, Andre Abdool and Christopher Holder are also active in the USA.
Despite, a competitive race is anticipated as the other riders will be looking to capitalize to ink their names among this best and be in contention for the prizes on offer.
The second stage of the race will also be contested today pedaling off at 14:00hrs at the Rosignol Stelling to end on Carifesta Avenue in the city.
The final stage tomorrow commences in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden from 08:00hrs to conclude just outside the National Sports Commission, Homestretch Avenue.
Hinds’ overall winning time last year for the distance of 171.4 miles was 6 hours 52 minutes 26 seconds and he would be aiming to lower this time but will be cognizant that his rivals will also be relishing their chances.
