RHTYSC, MS Cricket teams and Friends assists Guyana Police Force ‘B’ Division
The Rose Hall Town Police Outpost on Saturday last benefitted from a donation of bicycles, sports equipment and other items from the cricket teams of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town
Youth and Sports Club, MS. The Teams donated three bicycles, sports equipment for cricket, football, volleyball and dominoes and a collection of torch lights and search lights to the Police Outpost which recently was being under the spotlight due to an increase in armed robbery in the township of Rose Hall.
RHTYSC, MS Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster during a Police Face the Community meeting last Wednesday had committed the Club and its cricketers to assisting the Police outpost Under the Club’s highly successful Say No and Yes to Sports Programme. Foster expressed concern over the worrying high crime rate in the township and stated that the RHTYSC, MS would spearhead efforts to make sure that the outpost is properly equipped to fulfill its mandate.
The bicycles were donated by the cricketers along with assistance from Businessmen Ponnai Bhirooj and Lormendo Johnny, friends of the Club and would be used by the lawmen for patrols. The Club had donated two bicycles in the past to the Outpost, while the sport equipment would be used to establish a Police Youth Club in the township.
The energetic Secretary/CEO, who has served in that capacity since 2000, pledged that more bicycles, search lights, sports gears, a television set, tables and a set of chairs would be donated shortly by the cricket teams. The 2010 National Sports Awardee also stated that the RHTYSC, MS Cricket teams and the ‘B’ Division would shortly be working together on a Multi-million dollars Say No to Drugs, Crime, Suicide and Say yes to Sports and Education Campaign across Berbice, a massive Traffic Educational Programme in Region 6 and assisting less fortunate students and sports Clubs with educational materials, footwear and sport gears. The teams would also later this week donate $100,000 worth of information stickers that would be placed on cars and in public areas. The stickers would have all the quick response Telephone numbers of the ‘B’ Division Police Stations. The Cricket teams of the RHTYSC, MS which consists of numerous West Indies, National and Berbice players would continue to be active off and cricket field, Foster noted in an effort to make a positive difference.
Commander of ‘B’ Division, Asst Commander Ian Amsterdam hailed the contribution of the Club and its Cricket Teams and expressed pleasure that the Club was able to fulfill its commitment after just three days. Amsterdam expressed confidence that the crime situation in Rose Hall Town would soon be brought under control and praised the outstanding work of the RHTYSC, MS and its parent body, the St. Francis Community Developers. Hailing them as role model organisations, he expressed hope that others would follow in their footsteps and assist the Police to fulfill their mandate. He reassured members of the Cricket teams and Club executives present that the donated items would be used for their intended purpose.
