Dear Sports Editor,
I read in the Stabroek News an article sent by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (G.A.B.F) that Mr. Hercules is going to be Guyana’s representative at the 3 on 3 two day Clinic in Puerto Rico. I have nothing against Hercules but the G.A.B.F Executives, which I am not sure is putting a square peg in a round hole, maybe because of a family relationship to my knowledge. When Mr. Patrick Haynes mentioned this tournament at a G.A.B.F meeting on skype, I was hoping that the three G.A.B.F Executives; President Hinds, Vice Presidents’ K.P Thomas and Michael Singh were going to put Guyana First in selecting the right coach.
The best person in my mind for this task is Lugard Mohan who I saw Captain St. Stanislaus College to many school championships, Junior and Senior National Captain, Caricom All Star player, Captain and Coach of Raven’s Basketball Club winning many championships, F.I.B.A. Referee and now trying from the cradle up at the YBG Clinic. The person or persons who made Hercules their choice were very disrespectful to basketball.
Guyana is the only country that bench their experienced past basketball players. Mr. Mark Agard was sidelined after returning from 8th to 5th at the Caribbean Championships and so many others. We all know a US visa is required for the trip. If Mr. Mohan who has done Guyana proud from then to now, if we are talking about Guyana through the G.A.B.F and the Government of Guyana, all should have been done so we could have the best person to represent Guyana.
I know that Mr. Mohan and another F.I.B.A referee were the holders of a US Visa when they did their F.I.B.A referees training. The other countries would be sending their Past Nationals especially their Caribbean All Star Players once they are available. Mr. Mohan’s knowledge of the Sport would be easy for him to prepare a 3 on 3 team and win a championship of that age level. G.A.B.F Executives get it right and let’s move forward for Guyana.
I remain yours in Sport.
Dennis Clarke.
