Reigning Caribbean motor racing champion Guyana’s Kristian Jeffrey seems intent on using this year to extend his control as one of the premier racers in the region.
Jeffrey, who has won the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) back to back in 2014 and 15, recently returned from competing in the 2016 Barbados Festival of Speed where he was able to rub shoulders with current F1 champion Lewis Hamilton told Kaieteur Sport, during an interview at his home yesterday, that he is looking forward to the new season and his plan is to maintain his dominance over his regional rivals.
The soft spoken racer also revealed that he will be racing in the Suzuki Swift / Radical Series, while also preparing to defend his regional title.
To this end his father and Team Principal, Kevin, recently purchased the same Radical SR3 2016 that was driven by FI champion Hamilton, who was on the island to participate in the Speed Festival last weekend.
According to the senior Jeffrey, the Radical was on auction and was bought by David Simpson of SOL, who subsequently decided to offer him at the same price which he gleefully accepted.
“It was worth it, you had the reigning F1 champion drive it and he gave an impressive exhibition to the fans that thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the display,” Jeffrey recounted.
Jeffrey’s skill and ability has been on notice for the past two years and has won the hearts of many knowledgeables in the sport who believe that he has a good career ahead of him as long as he continue to hone his skills.
Speaking about the experience, Jeffrey said it was difficult, but one that he learned a lot from having to actually be running from one car to get into the next.
He pointed out that there was limited time also to get accustomed to the different setups because the cars are totally dissimilar in suspension, gearbox and braking.
Jeffrey, who will be sponsored by SOL for the Suzuki Swift Series, is presently part of a strong Guyana contingent to contest the opening leg of the CMRC later this month in Jamaica and all eyes will be on him as he targets retaining his title.
