A 50 –year-old woman of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne is now dead after she was chopped to death by her reputed husband of eight years.
Dead is Bagwanttie Persaud called “Kamini” of 196 Mangroo Street, Rose Hall who was allegedly chopped by her reputed husband, 52 year old, Desmond Gordon.
According to residents in the area, at around 17:00 hrs on Monday, they heard loud screams coming from the house.
A close relative of the accused told Kaieteur News that moments before the incident occurred, the man had dealt the woman several lashes about her body. “When me go by dem, me see she sit down with blood all pon she face so meh bring he out and seh man cool yahself and leff she alone before you get in trouble”.
The man stated that the woman then subsequently ran out of the house and the accused ran after her in an attempt to keep her in the house. “When he run behind she, he start lash she mo and me just walk out and tell neighbour seh call police before this man kill this lady hay”.
The relative added that about five minutes later, the accused approached him clad in bloodied clothing and stated, “Ah just kill Kamini and ah going and kill meself now”. He stated that he immediately contacted the police who arrived on the scene moments after, but by that time the woman had already died.
The man added that Gordon and the deceased shared a very abusive relationship. He mentioned that despite frequent reports made the police about the abuse, nothing was done.
Desmond Gordon was apprehended by law enforcement officers a few blocks away from the scene of the crime and currently is in police custody assisting with investigations.
The woman was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where she was pronounced DOA.
A post mortem is expected to be conducted shortly.
