Dozens of mothers were honoured on Mother’s Day by the cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town youth and Sports Club, MS and the Guyana Police Force ‘B’ Division. The presentation was done under the two organisations
joined Say No to Drugs, Crime, Suicide and Yes to Life, Sports and Education Campaign. The Mothers drawn from the Lower Corentyne area were each presented with a food hamper and a collection of gifts by Police Commander of ‘B’ Division, Ian Amsterdam at the RHTYSC, MS Area ‘H’ Ground office.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the Mother’s Day hamper project started in 1991 and praised the Cricket teams of the Club for their hard work in upholding the tradition. Noting that Mothers are God’s best gift to humanity, he stated that the Club was very privileged to be in a position to honour Mothers on their special day. He called on the experienced mothers to be role-models to the younger generation of parents and to spread the message that honesty, following the correct path, faith in God and sheer hard work are the keys to a successful life. Noting that Guyana is at the cross roads stage with its youths, he challenged the mothers to be mentors to youths in the area and to assist the Club and the Police Force to make a positive difference in their lives.
Commander Ian Amsterdam stated that he felt privileged to be working along with the RHTYSC, MS especially to honour mothers for their contribution to society. He committed the ‘B’ Division to providing better security for every resident in Berbice and he expressed gratitude to the RHTYSC, MS for investing heavily into making Guyana a better society for all to live in. The commander outlined several units that the Police Force was involved in as a part of its effort to make Berbice a more secure location. Mothers, the Commander stated, are the parent who keeps a family united and who encourages their children to fulfill their potentials.
The RHTYSC, MS cricket teams – RHT Farfan and Medes Under15, Bakewell Under17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under19 and Intermediate, Metro Female and Gizmos and Gadgets Under21 and First Division would like to express gratitude to Bakewell, De Sinco Trading, Guyana Beverage Company, Scotia Bank, Edward B. Beharry Co. Ltd, Ansa Mcal and Sterling Products Ltd for their contribution to the Tribute to Mothers Programme.
