The Board of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) has decided not to renew the contract of
Chief Executive Officer, Lionel Wordsworth.
The official was written to by Chairman of the Board of Directors, John Piggott, last Friday informing him that he would not be required to resume duties when his 10-month leave expired yesterday.
Wordsworth’s contract would have ended on August 31.
NDIA said that it will be paying the engineer his full benefits and emoluments due.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and the Management of the NDIA take this opportunity in thanking you for your years of service and wish you success in the future,” Piggott wrote in his letter.
Wordsworth, a seasoned engineer, was sent on 10-months leave last year to facilitate a forensic audit into the Authority.
The audit was launched shortly after the David Granger administration took office in May last year following early general elections.
NDIA is the body that manages the country’s water conservancies and drainage systems on the coastlands.
It has been handling billions of taxpayers’ dollars overtime.
The report of the forensic audit into the Authority has not been released to the public as yet.
The entity has been coming under fire for a number of years for how contracts were issued and implemented.
