Dear Editor,
Please permit me space in your widely read news paper. Sir the only thing that is continuous in this world is change. Before computers came to Guyana we had vehicles coming to our country and still are with emblems bearing their names and make, and also” caution,” “danger” and “advisory” signs in the case of farming, mining, and industrial machines. These emblems (stickers) are made of VINYL, which in some cases hold onto the machine throughout its life, although these machines are exposed to the elements.
Today computer technology is here and we have the opportunity to have our number plate digits made from the same materials as those foreign emblems which not only look perfect but also last much longer than the ones that are painted on with a brush on the metal plates. I wonder if the police are aware that paint is liquid plastic? I doubt it, and after painting and the paint dries and becomes hard, it will crack and peel off while the white vinyl have a life span of 6-12 years without fading.
But what is strange is that these very police that are forcing us to remove our numbers that are pasted onto our plates on vehicles which are used for production of food etc. are allowing some vehicles with the number plates with the BUBBLE plastic DIGITS which is also PASTED onto the plates and which are easier to fall off on impact with a fowl cock or a dog.
I think the person that made the decision to discontinue the vinyl digits needs to have his head examined by a psychiatrist, because it is counter productive and a retrograde step. And while this is only one case of man hours lost and backwardness, we can see our country dying or reversing at a fast rate, because I have already lost two days for my vehicle GDD 4100 to be examined and just to be told after examination that (Sir you cannot get fitness for this vehicle with the numbers pasted on the plates).
As far as I know the purpose of a number plate is for the purpose of identifying the vehicle and it must be clearly written according to specification and I have complied , it’s now two years since it have been this way and was accepted , what happen now ? A Change for the Worse? MAY GOD HELP GUYANA! .
