Since the formation of its Masters team some years ago, the Everest Cricket Club would embark on a tour to play a series of cricket matches against various teams in a foreign land. This year it’s no different as the Georgetown based club has embarked on a tour in Jamaica, the largest English Speaking Island in the Caribbean.
While in the ‘land of wood and water’ the Guyanese will play two matches at historic venues. On Saturday May 7 the tour began with a 35 overs a-side match at Sabina Park in the nation’s capital, Kingston. The opponents in that opening match was the Kingston Cricket Club Masters, while on Monday May 9, the Kaiser Sports Club ground in Discovery Bay, Ocho Rios will be the venue for the final match on tour against a select XI.
The 13-man squad which departed Guyana on Friday will be led by Rajesh Singh. The other members are Shadeo Hardaiow, Hafeez Ali, Hemraj Garbarran, Ravindranauth Seeram, Shaheed Mohamed, Rohan Sarjoo, Anwar Rahaman, Sanjeev Datadin, Ronald Jaisingh, Basil Persaud, Prakash Balgobin and Johnny Azeez.
The trip has been made possible through the generosity of IMG, Dinar Trading, Trophy Stall, Professional Printing Services, Carib Food Distributors, Fly Jamaica, Shalindra Etwaru, Robin Bharat, Anand Sanasie and staff of the Guyana Cricket Board, while WICB head Dave Cameron, Wavell Hinds and Paul Campbell from Jamaica have also contributed in making the tour a possibility.
The Team is expected home on May 12.
