May 07, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor,
I refer to an article in the Stabroek News of Friday, May 6th, 2016 in which it stated that Minister Raphael Trotman among others owes NIS. I also refer to a release by the Department of Public Information that Mr. Trotman in response to the article made some payments to NIS. I wish to ask the Director of Public Information, Mr. Imran Khan, whether Mr. Trotman’s failure to pay his NIS as required is a breach of the law and consequently if Mr. Trotman should continue as Minister. I would also like to ask Mr. Khan, if he will consequently resign his position as Director of Public Information in view of Mr. Trotman’s being in breach of NIS regulations, if Mr Trotman does not resign.
Merlin Richards
Editor’s Note:
Mr. Trotman has since issued a statement in which he said he was not aware of any monies owed to the NIS. On contact with the NIS it was revealed that the matter related to his personal contribution as a practicing lawyer and he has since advance payment to the NIS
