Dear Editor,
Setting the record straight: – if Donkey City was bad for the vendors then, well it’s bad for them now without proper preparations.
Team Benschop condemns the barbaric and dictatorial action by City Hall taken against the Stabroek Market vendors, and other persons affected.
We have absolutely nothing against the cleaning up of the city, and especially market areas. However, it must be done in a humane, and democratic manner that’s acceptable to all parties involved.
This matter (like most other matters) was never discussed at the council level, neither was a decision made by the council pertaining to the way forward with the vendors.
It must be noted that the Town Clerk continues to break every city law with the help of the newly decorated mayor and her sidekick. We call on Central Government to desist from interfering with the affairs of City Hall, and to sanction the dictators at the city level. Team Benschop stands in solidarity with the vendors, justice, democracy and the peace loving residents of Georgetown.
It’s ironic how the very things this government and the gang at city hall are doing now, were the things they aggressively fought against during the life of the previous dictatorial PPP regime. Life, eh.
Mark A. Benschop
