The uncle suspected in the murder-for-hire plot against Ruby businessman, Habiboodeen, was charged for murder on Friday last when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
Michael London is the third person charged in one week for the murder of 76-year –old businessman, Habiboodeen, who was attacked and beaten at his Ruby, East Bank Essequibo home on February 15, 2008. The pensioner succumbed in a hospital according to reports.
London stared straight ahead and remained silent during the few seconds it took Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool to read the charge to which he was not required to plead.
The resident of Tuschen Housing Scheme Essequibo is accused of working with the dead man’s daughter, Bibi Habiboodeen, who police say ordered him to help her find somebody to kill her father.
It was reported that she offered $6M plus a house and land to have the killing carried out. Police believe London arranged for his nephew, Linden Lewis, to act as the hit man.
Two other murder accused were charged jointly for murder on Wednesday. They are scheduled to make their next court appearance along with London on June 21.
According to reports Lewis was arrested for the murders of Mohamed Munir, 75, and his wife Bibi Jamila Munir, 69, who were burnt to death in their Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo home.
It was while he was in custody that someone tipped off investigators that Lewis had vital information about Habiboodeen’s death. Police said that while being interrogated on Monday last, Lewis admitted to killing Mr. Habiboodeen, while complaining that he had never received full payment for the job.
He told investigators that a female relative of the elderly businessman complained that other relatives of Habiboodeen had received properties and other assets, while she had received nothing.
