One ball manto also resumes
The Golyn 10/10 softball cricket tournament organized by the Guyana Softball League and sponsored by the Golyn and sons, Trophy Stall and Miss Love Trading (West Coast) resumes this weekend with five matches on the West Demerara that will give the teams a chance to go one step forward towards a quarter finals berth in this zone. The East Coast and Leguan zones will start as soon as the weather gives a chance and the grounds are prepared. The person to contact for all East Coast teams is Herman Persaud on telephone number 643-3033/ 223-6535 and for Leguan Chintamanie on tel number 692-9611/629-0039. The East Bank and Linden zone administrated by Representative Shafeek Mohamed (657-2300) and Mortimer Denny (653-2589/442-1562) will commence as soon as the weather permits.
The fixtures for West Demerara are as follows:
Prem XI versus Unstoppable XI:
Both teams are getting their acts together by finding a settled combination and will look to make a case for themselves. Prem XI possess a good bowling line up that will look to exploit the Unstoppable XI batting which doesn’t seem to have the depth. On the other hand Zaheer Hanif and Lincoln Leander will carry the weight and these two have a lot of experience to counter the Prem XI bowling. The match will go down to the wire with both teams looking to grab the initiative in the early.
Ruimzeight XI versus Super bet XI:
Ruimzeight will look to go another notch up the ladder in the points table as they can be very explosive on their day. The Superbet XI who are a good young side that can win sessions but lacked the finishing touch so far in the tournament but can upset any team if they can concentrate and be efficient in the bowling department for long periods.
Amazon Warriors versus Maracs XI:
The Amazon Warriors XI will be high in confidence having come from behind to shock Vipers XI and record a memorable victory. They will look to gain another victory as they sense the opposition are in a quandary having lost their last two encounters. Maracs XI on the other hand will look to win this encounter to gain some much needed points.
Westsiderz versus Mighty Lions XI:
Westsiderz are a new team that can create some upsets in this tournament and have been hard at practice as most of their players are from the West Bank area and have been playing alongside some of the best players from time to time. Mighty Lions have a good track record and can dominate this match if the players can create some openings in the batting or bowling. This a good match which can go either way.
Westsiderz versus Power XI:
Power XI do not look like the side that went to the quarter finals in the last tournament but on their day can beat any team so they will look forward to dominating the Westsiderz who are relatively new to this format.
Meanwhile, the one ball manto will resume this week for trophies and a ‘King of the Manto” will be crowned.
