Public Health Minister Dr George Norton yesterday disclosed that his ministry will be opening a five-unit neonatology department at the Bartica Regional Hospital tomorrow.
Norton stated that the reduction of infant mortality is very important to the ministry and as such they are taking stringent measures to ensure that it is avoided.
He said that the ministry has partnered with Kids First Foundation from Canada to secure the incubators, and officials in the neonatal department are being trained to operate the equipment.
The unit has cost the ministry approximately US$60,000. President Granger is expected to officially declare it open.
Norton noted further that the hospital’s operating theatre will also be opened to serve the community.
