Despite heavy overnight rain in the City and an overcast day, the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) May Day softball cricket tournament, which formed a part of Guyana’s 50th Anniversary year of events, was won by Mike’s
Pharmacy Male and female teams.
Mike’s Wellwoman beat Enterprise Divas by 70 runs while Mike’s Wellman sneaked past Wolf Superior by three runs in an exciting finish in the finals.
Held at the Thomas lands venue, Wellwoman batted first and made 117-4 in 15 overs. Player of the finals Latoya Smith stocked 45 and was supported by Joanna Vansertima who made 43.
Enterprise Divas were bowled out for 64 in 15 overs despite 33 from Mathana Cambridge as Smith and Reneka Isaacs grabbed two wickets apiece.
In the Men’s final, Wellman were dismissed for 141 from 20 overs with Shamlall top scoring with 47. Wolf Superior reached 139-9 before their 20 overs expired.
The proprietor of Mike’s Pharmacy, Mike Persaud made a donation to the club’s fund raising drive.
